Traffic Impacts to Saffron Walden

If over 1,000 houses are built to the east of Saffron Walden, residents require a solid and strategically thought out road and transport plan for the town that is committed as part of the plan. And residents want a voice in the drafting of the plan to make sure that it considers those living in existing neighbourhoods over new home owners. Any scheme should consider the following options:

  • New one-way systems
  • Changed road priorities
  • Improved bus services to Audley End station and Cambridge
  • Cycle route to the station
  • Reductions in speed limits
  • Shared space designs to prioritise residents and neighbourhoods over traffic
  • It should exclude new traffic lights as these have proved ineffective in the town and have actually caused traffic choke points and air quality issues
