Documents: Housing Distribution Strategy for Local Plan

Residents believe that the UDC Plan as proposed, with the hierarchy of settlements approach (spreading houses around), is unsustainable and not supported by evidence. Residents believe that it can be challenged on this basis.

UDC is also concerned about the evidence they have to support their new strategy.

In May 2012 the UDC cabinet discussed the draft UDC Plan which proposed the hierarchy of settlements approach. This new approach flipped the traditionally held, and evidence supported UDC strategy that only a new-town build was sustainable.

In their agenda item, Risk Analysis item 19 identifies that

  • There is some risk that the housing strategy of spreading houses around cannot be justified by the evidence base.
  • That meant that they identified a significant risk or impact that the UDC Plan could be challenged would need to be redone.

The following Agenda Item document is available from the UDC, presented at first Scrutiny Committee and then Cabinet for approval:

More documents are available the support the evidence for a new settlement from our UDC Plan reports and documents section.
