BBC features Saffron Walden residents’ call for safer cycling in last week of consultation supports the creation of a safe cycling and walking route between Saffron Walden and Audley End Station. It removes cars from the roads and helps people get fitter.

Residents’ group Access Walden, have been campaigning for this and Essex County Council’s public consultation on the scheme closes on 12th September 2014.

Access Walden say “It is vital that as many people as possible respond with their support for ECC’s currently proposed scheme. The number of residents who express support for the ECC proposals will seriously influence whether or not the scheme goes ahead.”

ECC lost many of the previous consultation responses, so residents are urged to respond again by the 12th. Access Walden have a:

BBC Inside Out: Will the Tour de France legacy deliver safer cycling for Walden?

The BBC’s David Whiteley uses the recent Tour de France as a backdrop to his report from Saffron Walden on the cycling campaign. Even though many 1,000s support the campaign, the only current cycle path in the town goes 350m from the town boundary to the dump…. He asks, will the success of the Tour de France deliver more of a legacy?
