Residents’ claim UDC tries to use April 30th Planning Meeting to seal Saffron Walden’s fate ahead of Local Plan

Saffron Walden based is claiming that UDC is trying to use a specially convened Planning Meeting on 30th April to push through all its housing development sites in Saffron Walden even though the Local Plan has yet to be approved by the Planning Inspectorate.

Dan Starr, chair of said “Clearly it seems that the UDC Cabinet are fearful that the Planning Inspectorate will find their plan unsound, or why else would they be attempting to approve 15 years’ worth of housing for Saffron Walden all in one day, and before the Inspector has even seen their draft Local Plan?”
“We have been pressurising UDC to do the right thing for the last 2 years, so now at last they are asking developers for land for a primary school and sports facilities, but the evidence shows that these unpopular proposals are still unsustainable,” Dan Starr continued. “The 700 new homes on the east of town would dump 1,000 new cars on the wrong side of the only illegal air quality emergency zone in the district, remove large chunks of residents’ street parking, limit parental choice for the High School, and stretch the already at-capacity sewer system. They are playing a cynical game with the residents of Uttlesford and we urge residents to attend the Planning Committee meeting on 30th”.

The UDC Planning Committee Meeting is from 10:00 to 17:00 on Wednesday 30th April at the UDC London Rd Offices in Saffron Walden and open to the public.
