Document: FOI response letter from UDC about Local Plan, including timeline

Download Document (PDF)As part of gathering information and responding to planning application public consultations, has submitted a number of freedom-of-information (FOI) requests to UDC to establish facts.

In this FOI response from Uttlesford District Council Chief Executive John Mitchell, he clarifies UDC’s position with respect to Local Plan timeline. UDC’s March 2013 draft Local Plan update indicated that they intended to pursue a 12 year Local Plan from its adoption in 2014 that would run until 2026. Subsequent to that specific guidance was received from the Planning Inspectorate that made it clear that this was not permitted and that it expected that a Local Plan should run for a minimum of 15 years from adoption.

In this letter John Mitchell confirms that it is now UDC’s intent to produce a Local Plan that runs 15 years from adoption. The earliest date for adoption will be 2014, which means that the Local Plan will be required to plan for housing until 2029 and so need to cater for an additional 1,200 new homes.
