UDC approve 68 homes in Dunmow and refuse 140 in Stansted

There were 2 major planning applications being reviewed during the second day session of the Uttlesford District Council Planning Committee; both highly controversial for their communities and neither was in the draft Uttlesford Local Plan.

The council chambers were packed with Stansted and Dunmow residents (picture:

First up was the Taylor Wimpey application for 140 houses at Bentfield Green in Stansted. Even though this was not a recommended Local Plan site, UDC officers recommended it. To the relief of residents, the Planning Committee refused the application 7 to 1 (Cllr Eric Hicks).

The second application was by Knight to build 68 houses in the Chelmer valley at Brick Kiln Farm outside of Dunmow. Again this was recommended by the UDC officer. Residents fared less well here as the UDC Planning Committee approved the application by 6 to 3 with one abstention.

The next Planning Committee meeting is on the 31 July.
