The out-of-place work/live units on Thaxted Road in Saffron Walden have been a failure, so instead the developer wants to build 55 normal houses on the site. The site is next to the controversial green-field site that Kier is promoting for 300 new homes.
At a recent Saffron Walden Town Council meeting the Town’s Planning & Road Traffic Committee objected to the proposals on the grounds that infrastructure was at capacity and in particular, there was no evidence to show that there were any plans to address road, education and air pollution issues.
Unfortunately Uttlesford District Council is responsible for approving the actual application and not the Town, but they are supposed to listen to the opinion of the town; but UDC have had an abysmal track record of community engagement or listening to the wishes of residents, Town, and Parish councils.
But at least residents know that their Town Council is in-tune with their wishes, even if the District isn’t.
The application is UTT/13/0750 and you can comment on it until May 10th.
The local paper covered the story, read it in the Saffron Walden Reporter (page 7).
