Residents highlight traffic problems in Uttlesford

On Tuesday morning the local residents group,, hit the streets of Saffron Walden to highlight the lack of a Highways Plan for the town. The group chose the busy junction of Radwinter and Thaxted Roads because they say it is the busiest in the town, already breaches legal pollution limits, and will see the brunt of the new traffic from new housing estates proposed for the east of Saffron Walden.

At the event, John Lodge, spokesman for the group and their Independent candidate in the upcoming local elections said

“Uttlesford District Council is targeting the east of the Saffron Walden for nearly 1,000 new homes, which will gridlock many of the town’s roads. Uttlesford and Essex councils have singularly failed to plan, and so failed local residents. The current roadworks, which are causing horrendous gridlock, give residents a taste of how traffic will be once the new houses are built.”

The group delivered leaflets that highlighted the impact to the roads to drivers while they were stuck in the morning commuter and school traffic.
