Here is an abstract of what Neil Hargreaves of Save Newport Village writes in this week’s Walden Local:
LAST WEEK’S WALDEN LOCAL front page article highlighted the lack of support from developers for Uttlesford’s proposals for Newport. UDC’s response was that this was merely selective quoting from the consultation responses. They are wrong. Five development professionals responded to the consultation relating to Newport site 1. The only one in favour was the builder responding under the name of the landowners. Not long afterwards he made a public announcement to residents and Newport Parish Council that he would not be implementing the proposed works himself anyway.
None of the other four had anything positive to say about the proposal and two were severely critical.
A submission from a Chartered Town Planner with long experience of working for local authorities and the Planning Inspectorate raised six major issues, including the problem of compulsory purchase being needed for the infrastructure works in the village.
The council said they “will consider all the comments received carefully.” After seven months to do this why is this still a future activity?
